Politico: Defense secretary orders review of security and vetting procedures following Pensacola shooting
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Defense Secretary Mark Esper has ordered a review of procedures for vetting foreign nationals and security on military installations following a shooting at a naval base in Pensacola, Fla., by a Saudi military trainee that killed three people and wounded 11 others.
In an interview at the Reagan National Defense Forum at the Reagan Presidential Library, Esper called the Friday shooting a “tragic incident” and said the Pentagon has “taken precautions.”
“Yesterday, I directed that we look at our security precautions across the services and all of our installations and bases and facilities to make sure that [we’ve] got the appropriate degree of security to protect our service members and their families and our communities,” Esper said.
