It's not unusual for the French to comment on anything American and normally in the negative. What is rare is a Frenchman saying something positive about Americans; in this case heaping praise on our soldiers in Afghanistan.

WNU Editor: This story reminds me of another story but from the perspective of a Taliban fighter. When captured and interrogated he remarked that the Taliban always knew that when they engaged with U.S. forces, the U.S. forces always went on the offensive and were relentless even when outnumbered. On a side note. My father who had years of combat experience during the Second World War always believed that the French Foreign Legion were the best soldiers in the world.
