In a series of cables, Sir Kim gave a scathing assessment of the White House under the US President, questioning whether it 'will ever look competent'.

Last night, the Foreign Office began investigation into the leak, which revealed that Sir Kim also described Donald Trump's regime as 'inept' and 'dysfunctional'.

Justice Secretary David Gauke called the leak 'disgraceful' and said it was important for ambassadors to 'tell the truth'. However, Mr Trump's ally, Nigel Farage, called for Sir Kim to be sacked.
