CNBC: Theresa May's government survives a no-confidence vote after its crushing Brexit defeat
* U.K. leader Theresa May has survived a vote of no-confidence in her governmnet.
* The chances of a general election triggered by Brexit confusion look to have receded.
The U.K. government led by Prime Minister Theresa May has survived a vote of no confidence.
Lawmakers in the U.K.'s lower house of parliament, the House of Commons, voted to defeat the motion raised by the leader of the main opposition Labour party, Jeremy Corbyn, by 325 votes to 306.
Immediately after the vote, May said her government would continue to work to deliver on Brexit and said it was their duty to find a way forward that was approved by the House.
May was backed by members of the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party and the Brexiteer Conservative Party lawmakers who had voted against her EU withdrawal plan in the same chamber only 24 hours earlier. On Tuesday evening, lawmakers voted by 432 to 202 to reject May's Brexit deal.

WNU Editor: Not surprised that she survived this no-confidence vote. The Conservative Party needs a new leader before going into the next election, and by holding the balance of power the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party sees no value of having an election now. As for Brexit, the EU is now proposing a delay that I suspect U.K. leader Theresa May is going to be tempted to take. I do not see what that is going to accomplish. The British were very blunt two years ago that they want to leave the EU, but there has been nothing but delay from British PM May, starting with trying to get some sort of deal that we learned yesterday that no one wants. If I know any better, British Prime Minister May is trying to kill Brexit, and she is doing it by delaying the entire process while saying that we need to have a structure in place before we leave. A structure that will never be put in place, as we learned yesterday.
