Washington Post: Trump lawyers outline president’s Russian income but provide no documents

The White House on Friday released a letter from two tax attorneys for President Trump claiming that his only income from Russian sources in the past 10 years came from fees for hosting the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow in 2013, his sale of a Palm Beach mansion to a Russian businessman in 2008 and his company’s routine sales of condo units and rounds of golf to Russians.

The attorneys said that their analysis came from a review of Trump’s tax returns for the past 10 years. However, they did not release the returns or provide any documents to support their claims.

The letter, from lawyers Sheri A. Dillon and William F. Nelson, also asserted that Trump holds no debt from Russian lenders and holds no equity in Russian entities. They explained that because of the way that Trump operates his businesses, his corporate income and debt would be disclosed on his personal tax returns.

Update: Trump lawyers: Documents show no undisclosed Russian income (Canadian Press/AP)

WNU Editor: So the Washington Post is upset because they want documentation for transactions that never happened. I am with Trump on this one. I .... like all Canadians who earn income from abroad .... must declare income that is earned from overseas. Because of a family business in Russia, I do get some income each year .... and I do declare it (in both Russia and in Canada). A few years back I was audited by the Quebec province .... and yes .... they also wanted documentation for non-existent transactions from Russia. I did win my case .... I do not hide income and I do declare everything .... but it was a nuisance and a headache that I did not need. As for President Trump .... who earns far more than I do, and who is also the President of the United States .... I can only imagine what his accountants and lawyers must be going through right now. But the Washington Post does make a good point on his sons and their business relations with Russia. I have mentioned it before .... his sons are running their businesses and operations while their dad is the President. The opportunity to have a conflict of interest is there .... and if not handled properly .... it can easily blow up in their face.
